A citron (French: le Cédrat) is a citrus fruit that is both rare and valuable, noted for its size, generally larger than a lemon, and for its thick, rough rind. Citrus medica ‘Maxima’. It smells like cedar, hence the lesser-known name cedrat. It has the largest fruit among citrus fruits. One fruit can weigh up to 2 kg. It most likely comes from India, from where it was the first citrus to come to Europe via Iran. Although it is less common than other citrus fruits, it is appreciated in cooking.
