Astilbes are one of my favorite shade plants. Yes, some can tolerate sun but they can get bleached and I like the rich dark color of their leaves when they're in the shade. They are pollinators and native plants in many areas, and they prefer rich, moist soil. Unlike a lot of other perennials (the ones that come back every year), these can be a little tricky to divide.
