Found a perfect tinder hoof fungus (Fomes fomentarius) for making amadou. Amadou is a mushroom ‘leather’ made by stretching and fluffing up the trama until it feels like a thick velvet suede. But first, peel off the shell, the pore layer and the core. There was some insect damage I had to cut away but ended up with a reasonable piece, enough to make this sweet little purse. It ties closed by threading the cord through the limpet shell which is attached at the base with sinew thread. | Monica ‘Mo
