Soviet Space Shuttle Buran "Buran" was the Soviet equivalent of the US Space Shuttle. Only one Buran orbiter was ever made. It completed a single unmanned orbital flight in 1988. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the program was cancelled, and the former Soviet Space Shuttle stood derelict in a hangar at the Bakinour Cosmodrome (Kazahkstan).
