A White House official said the five were fired because of their exorbitant salaries and ineffective oversight.

A White House official told the federally appointed board that President Donald Trump had terminated five of its the seven members, the board said.

The Trump administration terminated most of the members of the oversight board supervising Puerto Rico’s finances, reinserting the White House into the island territory’s troubles and shaking up its lengthy bankruptcy process.
