Weather experts have confirmed that 12 tornadoes touched down in Michigan at the end of March in an unusually large spate that damaged buildings and trees. Michigan averages about 15 tornadoes a year, according to the state's website, and with two more twisters touching down on April 2, a total of 14 have already hit in 2025.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a twelfth tornado touchdown during a massive line of deadly storms that swept across Michigan on March 30. It also said survey teams continue to look at a couple more areas that could show signs of twister damage.

NWS confirmed 12 tornadoes touched down across Lower Michigan on March 30, and an additional two tornadoes were reported in Branch County on April 2. Michigan typically sees 15 to 16 tornadoes a year on average.
