"No Kings" protests against the Trump administration are taking place today in and around New York City as part of nationwide demonstrations. Fifth Avenue was closed to traffic from 42nd Street to 23rd Street in Manhattan as protesters marched from Bryant Park.

Over 90 "No Kings" protests were taking place Saturday, June 14, across New York state as millions across the country are expected to take part in a "nationwide day of defiance."

Democracy is “in real trouble,” Mark Ruffalo told MSNBC’s Antonio Hylton while attending the “No Kings” rally in New York City Saturday. His words were echoed by Ellen Pompeo, Kerry Washington, Jimmy Kimmel, and many more notable people and celebrities who spoke out in support of the nationwide protests.

Thousands of residents turned out for “No Kings” protests across the WAMC listening area this weekend. WAMC Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Jesse King reports the events were largely peaceful.

"We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events..."

The demonstrations follow more than a week of large-scale protests in Los Angeles against Mr. Trump’s immigration crackdown and his decision to deploy the military there. Protesters gathered in Liberty Plaza outside of the Georgia State Capitol in Downtown Atlanta.

Most of the "No Kings" protests across the country were peaceful, however, one person has died from a shooting in Salt Lake City.
