Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios are well-positioned to meet in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Kyrgios fired two service winners for 3-0 and drew Djokovic's mistake in the seventh point for 5-2. Novak missed a routine forehand in the eighth point and offered his rival four match points. Nick converted the second with a service winner, beating Novak for the second time within a couple of weeks.

It remains to be seen if Djokovic will be able to put his recent injury concerns behind him to fight for the title at Indian Wells. He has won the tournament on five previous occasions, a record he shares with Roger Federer, but has not lifted the trophy since 2016.

Kyrgios ousted Djokovic two times within a couple of weeks in 2017 in Acapulco and Indian Wells. The Aussie served well and outplayed the Serb in the pivotal moments to notch two notable victories. They did not like each other back then, to say at least, but the things improved in the next couple of years.

Nick Kyrgios has not won a singles match since 2022. If he can win one this week he will find himself facing his buddy Novak Djokovic across the net.
