Some 27 people, including nine children, have been confirmed dead after flash floods in central Texas, authorities said on Saturday, as rescuers continued a frantic search for survivors including dozens still missing from a girls' summer camp.

The deadly floods that struck Texas on the 4th of July caught local officials off guard as the torrential rains caused the Guadalupe River to overflow in minutes.

A t least 66 people are dead in central Texas after devastating flash floods slammed Texas Hill Country, with water rescues taking place along the Guadalupe River. A dozen are still missing from Camp Mystic in Kerr County, a children's summer camp, officials said Sunday.

Emergency responders continued to search for missing individuals including at least 10 girls who were attending a summer camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
