Days of downpours and flash floods will ruin outdoor plans and create dangers in parts of the southeastern United States into next week, while a wedge of cooler and less humid air over the interior will be brief.

Heavy flooding is being blamed for at least one death in the Northeast after heavy rains slammed the region. CBS News' Nikki Battiste reports.

A cold front will bring increasing rain chances late tonight, mainly north. Heavy downpours may cause over 2" per hour, leading to localized flooding.

But as the heat lingered into the evening, the service began posting flood watches. By the afternoon of July 31, more than 50 million people in the region are forecast to be under a flood watch.
