BEIJING (Reuters) -Extreme weather killed at least eight people in the city of Chengde just outside the Chinese capital Beijing, with 18 still unaccounted for, as heavy rainfall pounded the hilly region over the past week.

At least 38 people have reportedly died in China due to severe floods, which are causing structural damage and power outages across the east and north. Amid the natural disaster, more than 80,000 people have been evacuated.

Extreme weather in northern China has killed at least 60 people over the past week, including 31 residents of a Beijing nursing home swept away by one
