BEAUMONT, Texas — With a winter storm sweeping across Southeast Texas many are feeling the chill, however this cold snap isn't just effecting people. The cold weather is also taking a toll on one of Louisiana's and Southeast Texas' favorite tradition, crawfish season.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Due to the upcoming cold weather and the potential for snow next week many Southeast Texas schools may be considering a closure. We're doing our best to keep up with all of them and publish them here as soon as we have confirmed official information on a school closure.

As severe weather remains possible for Southeast Texas, a tornado watch has been extended for three counties in the area. The National Weather Service Lake Charles has extended a tornado watch for Hardin, Jasper and Newton counties until 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Beaumont and Port Arthur are setting up shelters and warming stations to protect residents and pets from freezing temperatures and potential risks.

The National Weather Services in Shreveport, Houston/Galveston, and Lake Charles have issued Winter Storm Watches which will go into effect Monday night and continue through most of the day Tuesday.

Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) told Newsweek: "ERCOT has issued a Weather Watch from January 20-23 due to predicted extreme cold weather across the ERCOT region, higher electrical demand, and the potential for lower reserves. Winter precipitation is also expected across parts of the state.
