From Mount Pleasant southward, each day this week should warm to between 82 and 87 degrees. The long-term average high now is 72 degrees for southern Michigan and 69 degrees for northern Michigan. Afternoon temperatures around 85 degrees are abnormal, but not at record warmth levels. The record high temperatures are still in the 90s.
The view line on SWPC's dashboard map shows people in up to 14 states could see the northern lights, or aurora borealis, Tuesday night. Michiganders as far south as Muskegon, Saginaw and Mount Pleasant may be able to see the shimmering lights in the night sky to the north, NOAA says.
