PHOENIX — A man is dead after a shooting in downtown Phoenix on Thursday night, authorities said. Porfirio Medina, 45, was identified as the man killed in the deadly incident, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Buckeye Road regarding reports of a shooting around 10:45 p.m.

A man who was armed with a hatchet was shot by officers outside an IHOP restaurant on Aug. 19 near 19th and Northern Avenues, police said. The man later died at a hospital.
