Asian shares are mostly lower after U.S. stock indexes drifted to a mixed finish. Markets fell in China but rose in Japan.

The U.S. stock market has been generally struggling since the middle of last week after several weaker-than-expected reports on the economy thudded onto Wall Street. On Tuesday, the latest said confidence among U.S. consumers is falling by more than economists expected.

Asian shares were mixed on Wednesday, with Chinese markets gaining after Wall Street extended its losses on worries over inflation and tariffs. The rally in Chinese shares was led by gains for technology companies.
