The Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season just two years ago, heading into the tournament as the conference’s top seed. Last season, the Hoosiers were the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

Indiana headed to West Lafayette desperately needing a win in the rivalry game. The Hoosiers had beaten Purdue last time out, at home on February 15, but went 1-2 after that, dropping two straight games.

UCLA, Ohio State and Maryland also earned double-byes and do not have to play until Friday. A champion will be crowned Sunday, and that team earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins March 19 with First Four action.

Both teams are 1-2 since they last met, but Purdue won its last game against Penn State, giving the Boilermakers a little more momentum coming into Sunday's game. Indiana dominated Purdue defensively in the first matchup, but did allow a 15 point performance off the bench from Kendall Puryear, who led Purdue in scoring that game.
