Hawaii Island’s Kilauea volcano began erupting on March 10, spewing rock fragments as large as footballs, threatening nearby communities and closing nearby highways.

Gov. Josh Green issued an emergency proclamation ahead of the storm and state parks and trails on some islands were closed, officials said.

The City & County of Honolulu today announced several closures and cancellations as a Kona low storm approaches Oahu.

“While flash flooding remains a major concern, confidence is increasing that strong to severe thunderstorms may develop Wednesday into the weekend.
