NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced that, starting with Crew-12 and Artemis II, astronauts will be able to take modern smartphones to space.
Astronauts will now be able to bring modern smartphones on space missions, according to a tweet this week from NASA administrator Jared Isaacman. Isaacman said the policy will begin with SpaceX Crew-12 and Artemis II.
Until now, NASA prohibited personal devices because they had to pass extremely strict protocols on issues such as fire risk.
For the moon orbit, astronauts of Artemis 2 mission will be allowed to take modern smartphones for the first time. NASA is thus loosening long-standing rules.
