MINNEAPOLIS—The suspect in the shooting of Minnesota lawmakers on Saturday was feeling down and unhappy with his work situation, but showed no signs that he could turn violent, his self-described best friend and part-time roommate said.

Here’s what we know about the 57-year-old charged with the murders of state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and shootings of state senator John Hoffman and his wife.

Boelter, 57, was arrested at about 9 p.m. June 15. He is accused of shooting the two Democratic state legislators and their spouses in the early morning hours of June 14. The Minnesota State Patrol took him into custody in rural Sibley County, roughly 60 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
