Francisco Lindor led off with the first of New York’s four solo homers and the Mets rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Pete Alonso followed with a key insurance run after doubling and scoring on a Mark Vientos RBI single. Then came the exclamation point: Brandon Nimmo crushed a two-run homer off Cubs right-hander Gavin Hollowell, effectively sealing a 6-2 win for New York. Lindor delivered an emotional Mother's Day message after the win.

NEW YORK — Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and left fielder Seiya Suzuki sped toward the wall at Citi Field, trying to chase down a sharp fly ball hit between them by the Mets’ Luis Torrens in the second inning Sunday. Crow-Armstrong got there first, jumping into the padding and missing the ball by inches.
