Drivers heading south from Cheshire are being warned to expect major disruption with the M6 motorway closed off following a fatal crash. National Highways says the M6 southbound is expected to remain closed 'throughout the day' (February 28) between junctions 16 near Crewe and 15 for Stoke-on-Trent.

Drivers have been warned to expect long delays after a six-vehicle crash closed a section of a motorway in Warwickshire. National Highways said the M6 southbound, near Henley, remained closed between Junction 3 for Bedworth and Junction 2 near Coventry following a "serious multiple vehicle collision".

A diversion has been put in place by National Highways. A spokesperson said: "The M6 in Staffordshire remains closed southbound between J16 near Crewe and J15 near Stoke-on-Trent due following a serious collision that occurred overnight.

The M6 just north of Lancaster has been closed by police due to a fire. Police have shut both north and southbound carriageways of the M6 between junctions 34 and 35. A spokesman said: “We anticipate that the motorway will be closed for some time whilst we assess the situation.

The M6 southbound in Staffordshire is closed on Friday following a crash on Thursday evening. National Highways said the carriageway between junction 16, Crewe, and junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent, closed after a "serious collision". The agency added the carriageway was expected to remain closed throughout the day on Friday.
