NEW YORK (AP) — Metropolitan Opera season attendance dropped slightly following the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown that coincided with a decrease in tourists to New York. The Met sold 72% of capacity, matching 2023-24 and down from its 75% projection.

State lawmakers passed the ban in 2020 when President Trump in his first term escalated arrests of undocumented immigrants at state and local courts.

Trump DOJ lawyers slapped New York with a lawsuit Thursday, claiming it was assisting "illegal aliens' evasion of federal law enforcement" and "prohibiting civil arrests" at or near courthouses.

The Trump administration is suing New York over a state law that stops immigration officials from arresting people at New York courthouses.

The DOJ sued New York over a 2020 law barring ICE courthouse arrests, arguing it obstructed immigration enforcement and violated the Constitution.

WASHINGTON — Gov. Kathy Hochul, testifying Thursday before a congressional panel investigating sanctuary immigration policies, insisted that New York law enforcement officers cooperate with federal immigration agents despite a patchwork of laws and policies aimed at limiting that.

Millions of people across the country are expected to join in protest this weekend against Donald Trump’s administration, a movement intended to coincide with the president’s planned military parade in Washington.

Some of the demonstrations were organized by local residents after being surprised by sudden immigration raids; others are part of planned efforts by organizations like the Service Employees International Union, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the 50501 Movement, a progressive political group.
