TOKYO -- Asian shares traded mostly lower Thursday after a quiet day on Wall Street, where the S & P 500 added to its record. Worries about U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies remain high on regional investors' minds.

U.S. stock indexes are rising Wednesday after a four-day losing streak knocked Wall Street off its all-time high and threw some of its brightest stars into reverse. The S&P 500 was up 0.8% in morning trading.
